On Friday evening I picked up my drum and joined our community at our regular drum circle run by Bastian (Snake Dancer).
On arrival, my precious deerskin drum at my side, I was embracing my new inner calm, having come to some decisions and made some choices in the weeks previous, I moved into the circle ready and open to any messages the drums, ancestors and spirit may have for me.
The drumming started and I was carried swiftly off, feeling my body swaying, moving from side to side, as if my body were trying to break free of its bonds and move without the use of mind and physical. The ancestors were called and the circle forged with a feeling of presence and divine love descending on me, I indulged in the freedom of feeling comfortable and safe in this sacred space.
The drumming continued and grew within me as the beat continued to carry me off and I began to feel the snake unfurling at the base of my spine. Slowly at first, gently unwinding its coils as if to stretch, feeling my body responding to it with gentle, undulating movements in my spine, gradually weaving its way up my spine, my movement becoming more intense as the snake made its way higher and higher.
I was swaying and moving with a flexibility I had not felt in a while, my body felt free as if the snake was now my spine and I could move like it.
As it reached my third eye it gave me a message…
I am the one who can move through the elements,
I am the one who can swim through the deepest waters and flow with the tides,
I am the one who can climb the highest trees and float with the winds in their branches,
I am the one who can move through the earth’s deep places, finding caves and hidden ways within,
I am the one who slithers through the fires ashes warming my skin,
You are the one who must choose this way too,
You must follow in my footsteps and flow through life and the elements with me,
You have the abundance of flexibility to move anyway you want, without restriction,
Do this and you will become as me
Coming back from this journey and pondering the message of Snake, now picking up my own drum and surrounded by other drummers beginning to beat out a rhythm, finding the flow and feeling the beat surge through me, coming from my drum and the snake still within me.
The rhythm takes over and I am dancing, moving as I have never moved before, my spine, legs and arms all moving in one continuous, fluid motion as if I have become the snake, flowing and moving through the elements, just as its message says.
It is a wonderful dance, a wonderful moment, a moment where I am complete, I am at one with all and the Great Spirit moves within me. It feels like I have arrived and it feels divine.
The joy of that experience with Snake has left me feeling more confident and assured in the way I am being in life and I now know that the pathway is in place for me to flow into and its all going to be so easy.
