Nature Gnome

For many years my connection to nature has been growing and I am spending more and more time exploring the wonders of Mother Earth and all her creations.  From the mighty trees to the beautiful daisy’s, from the blossoming lilacs to the vibrancy of the red, red roses, there are so many contrasts in nature that it would take me years to explore them all.

Discovering this idyllic place, we find ourselves filled with a yearning to linger here, where time stands still and beauty overwhelms. Anon

I love to take walks discovering different pathways through the bush and fields, discovering the hedgerows and picking wild blackberries.  I also love to be in my garden, playing with the plants all around me.

I have always grown my own herbs and some veggies and I love to have big trees and shrubs providing shelter and a wonderfully cool place to sit and meditate on a hot day.  I love to wander and pick the odd leaf for its wonderful scent or just to bend and take in the soft fragrance of the flowers blooming.

One of the things that thrills me about being close to nature is her seasons and all they have to teach me each and every year.

I love the way the earth gets barren and still during the long winter months, when the snow falls and the frosts caress the land, the trees stand naked and resplendent in posture, proud and strong, reminding us that this is a time to renew our strength through the energy of our roots within Mother Earth.

I am always surprised when the first snowdrop pushes its head up to welcome in the spring, closely followed by the crocus and primrose.  The first buds on the bushes and the starting of blossoms on the trees awaken in me a feeling of renewal, of new beginnings and a time to embrace life with a spring in my step.

When summer rolls in, it does so gently and softly, as quiet as a still morning breeze softly rustling the new born oak leaves and bringing in a new season of colours with it. The sun now at its full power feeds the land and all its creations, bathing us all in warmth, allowing us to blossom to our full potential.  As the trees stretch towards the morning rays, so we should take this time to embrace the vitality of the summer.

Autumn comes on the cold winds, the long nights, and the softening of the sun as the season changes into my favourite season of them all.  I love watching the trees beginning to shed their leaves, turning them russet, gold, red and yellow as they gently release what is no longer needed to continue the cycle of their lives.  The land is a picture of greens, reds, yellows and browns that is wonderful to behold and even lovelier to walk amongst.

This year I am returning to my garden with new eyes and will be working with my wonderful Gnome friends and the nature and plant spirits to reawaken the beauty of my little patch, creating more specialness in the coming months.

Throughout the seasons I like to spend time meditating with the energies of the land, elemental’s and nature spirits, so here is a small meditation to help you connect with those energies for yourselves.
